Pressure Sand Filters Bed are designed to remove turbidity and suspended particles present in the raw water. These filters are very effective and produce crystal clear water. Different types of filter media are used depending upon raw water quality and treated water quality.
Operation and cleaning of filter :
- Water passes downward to the filter bed. Suspended matter is trapped and collected on top bed. Suspended matter collected gradually increase in volume causing heed loss. This is indicated by pressure gauge of pressure sand filter
- Now filter requires cleaning which is done by 'back washing'. The water under pressure is forced up from the vessel which removes the matter collected on the top bed. The back water is being allowed to go to drain
